Webster's Dictionary defines "pressure" as "the burden of physical or mental distress." At this time of year you can add; "inflicted on students by final exams." If exams have got you feeling up against it, there's ways to offload that stress so that it won't adversely impact your family, your friends or your semester grade.
Take A Beat!
Sometimes the best way to offload stress and elevate your mood is to simply listen to music that you know will lift your spirits. Shakespeare suggested it; "Music has charms to sooth the savage..." and science has proved it; The right tunes can lower your blood pressure, slow your heart rate and give you an all-around feeling of well-being. So "Take A Beat" whenever you feel like you need a little help chilling out.
An easy way to do that is with My KISS List! Just pick your favorite KISS tunes and we'll send you an e-mail or text (or both) to let you know exactly when your favorite tunes are going to play! It's absolutely FREE. (Well, except for whatever your cell carrier charges you for text messages.) Check it out!
Home, school, work, your friends, your parents. You've got to juggle all those things every day. Sometimes, no matter what you do, it all starts to fall apart. When that happens, it's very easy to get the point where you just can't take it anymore. You wind up stressed, depressed, and maybe just a little out of control. A little bit of that is perfectly normal. But, if you've been dealing with it for a while and you haven't been able to rebound, then maybe it's time to get some help from a pro. Here's the good news: Even if it is a little more serious, it's completely treatable. you don't have to suffer with it.
103.7 KISS-FM, Mental Health America of Wisconsin and The Charles E. Kubly Foundation have put together some resources that you can look into confidentially, including a totally anonymous online Mental Health screener that can help you get a handle on things.
STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW: No matter what anyone tells you, no matter what you may have heard before, the real truth is that there is absolutely no "shame" or "stigma" in checking out your Mental Health with a professional. Just like there's no "shame" or "stigma" in getting help with your car from a professional mechanic. Sometimes your ride needs help, sometimes your head needs help.
One more thing: It's not just you. Nationwide, 20% of all young Americans are affected by some type of mental illness. Break it down like this. Pile four of your friends into your car. The odds are good that at least one of you is dealing with some form of mental illness. In a class of 30 students, that's six people affected. Bottom line: It happens to lots of people and it can be treated. Take a look around at the links below.
103.7 KISS-FM, Mental Health America of Wisconsin and The Charles E. Kubly Foundation are here to help you keep it together. If you have questions or are looking for additional help you can contact Mental Health America Wisconsin at (414) 276-3122 or send an email to info@mhawisconsin.org

If you believe you or one of your friends might have depression, please talk with a trusted adult like a parent or other family member, teacher, school counselor, principal, coach, clergyperson, physician, who can help you find the help that you need.
Whatever you do, never keep talk of suicide a secret even if your friend has asked you to. Take it seriously and seek help immediately from a trusted adult. It is better to risk losing a friendship than to risk losing a friend forever.
